The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) is a professional body dedicated to excellence in Corporate Governance and Public Administration. It is an offshoot of the International Professional Body (ICSA) with its headquarters in London and divisions and associations in more than Seventy Countries worldwide. ICSAN obtained autonomy in August, 1988 and was incorporated under the Companies Act 1968. ICSAN was later granted in Nigeria a Charter by Decree 19 of 1991.
ICSAN is a leading recognised professional body in Nigeria dedicated to enhancing the status and practice of corporate governance and public administration.

The Institute is governed by a Council made up of thirty (30) members headed by the President/Chairman of Council. The Secretariat is headed by a Registrar/CEO and other management staff who carries out the day to day running of the affairs of the Institute and reports to the Council.

The Structure also comprises of fourteen (14) Committees and Sub-Committees of the Council, whose roles are advisory.

Membership Strength -Graduates: 248, Associates: 1750, Fellows: 230. Total number of members is 2,228. Students - 3,100 students.

Promotion and advancement of the efficient administration of commerce, industry, public/ private and non-governmental establishments by the continued development of the study and practice of Corporate Secretaryship and Administration.

To be the foremost professional Institution in the Country in the area of corporate and public governance administration.

To be the professional Institution that sets and accredits those standards in Secretaryship and Administration which define “best practice”.

To train multi-skilled professionals with creative intellects and the pre-requisite requirements of Company Secretaries, Administrators and Corporate Directors.

To remain an independent self-regulating body operating under Charter and consisting of members qualified in accordance with a scheme of education, training and practical experience determined by its Council.

To be quality-driven and maintain tradition of excellence in a rapidly changing business and public administration world.
